Social Inclusion

Overview

Social inclusion is an important policy especially designed to make sure that everyone will be able to participate in any society no matter what the background, characteristic and race he or she may have. Other factors included are age, social status, disability, gender, culture, language and more. These factors leads to unemployment, homelessness, low education resulting to poverty and a high risk to social exclusion. This is the main reason why the social inclusion policy was created. The main goal of social inclusion is to give people with these characteristics an equal opportunity to participate in all aspects of the society. To attain this objective, this policy will address aspects such as education, unemployment, citizenship and other barriers. There are a lot of barriers due to these characteristics, but most barriers are intangible. One of the main and most popular issue when it comes to intangible barriers is discrimination. Social inclusion is characterized by the respect for identity and the balance between the duties and rights of individuals and the society entirely. There are a lot of states that created specified social inclusion policies. This way, these states can avoid the risk of exclusion.

Australia

The Government of Australia developed social inclusion agendas to build a stronger and fairer nation. Social inclusion Australia aims to build a nation where every Australian will have an equal opportunity and support to be able to participate in all the aspects of the society. They aim to achieve this by dressing the more complex forms of disadvantages among the characteristics and barriers of the individuals in Australia. Included in the social inclusion approach of the Australian government are sectors such as the community, businesses, government, non-profit organizations, individuals and more. These sectors must work together. The main vision of the Australian social inclusion is a society where Australian will feel valued with the equal opportunity of participating in the social life in the nation. They aim to give equal resources, capabilities, and opportunities so that everyone can participate in education, training, employment, voluntary work, family and community resources. This policy also aims to give voice to all people so that their decisions can affect the entire society.

Attitude

Attitude is one of the main reason for the issue of social exclusion. Most people are busy thinking about their own situation and condition in life. They need to work hard to put food in the table, making them forget about other people who have characteristics that becomes barriers or disadvantage to be included in the society. There are also other people who do not feel comfortable with other people who are different to them. This leads to a very big risk of exclusion to other people. This is the reason why gays and lesbians are usually excluded in the society. The attitude of the people is one of the main things that social inclusion policy addresses.
